Terms of Service

The short version

  • Amber Notes is free. You can use it as long as you follow these terms.
  • Your notes are yours. We only use them to store, sync and show them the way you ask.
  • Don't use shared pages for anything illegal or harmful. We take down pages that break these rules.
  • Connecting an AI assistant is your choice, and you can disconnect it at any time.
  • The app is provided as it is. Keep copies of anything you can't afford to lose.
  • You can delete your account at any time.

About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Emil Wagman, an individual developer in Sweden ("we"), about your use of the Amber Notes apps for iPhone and Mac, the service that lets AI assistants connect to your notes, and the website at amber-notes.vercel.app, including shared note pages (together, "Amber Notes").

By creating an account or using Amber Notes, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.

Your account

  • You can sign up with Sign in with Apple or with an email address and password.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
  • You need to be old enough to use online services on your own where you live: at least 13, or older where your country's law requires it.

Your notes are yours

You own everything you write and add to Amber Notes. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your notes, sync them between your devices, back them up, show a note to the people you share it with, and let an AI assistant you connected read or change them. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from backups, which roll over.

We don't read your notes, and we don't use them to train AI models or for advertising.

Acceptable use

You may not use Amber Notes, and in particular shared pages, to publish or send:

  • anything illegal, or that helps someone break the law;
  • sexual content involving minors, or anything that exploits or endangers children;
  • harassment, threats, hate speech, or content that encourages violence or self-harm;
  • other people's private information without their permission;
  • malware, phishing, spam or scams;
  • content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights.

You also may not try to reach other people's notes, overload or disrupt the service, get around its limits, or use it to build a competing service by copying its data.

Shared pages and reports

  • A note you share becomes a public web page. Anyone with its link can read it until you stop sharing, and the link may be passed on. You're responsible for what you share.
  • Every shared page has a Report this page link. We review reports, normally within 24 hours. A page that several different people report is hidden automatically while it's reviewed.
  • We remove pages that break these terms, and we close accounts that break them repeatedly or seriously.
  • If you think a page was removed by mistake, write to emil@norditech.se.

AI connections

  • Connecting an AI assistant is your choice. You approve each connection in the app and choose whether it may only read or also edit your notes.
  • An assistant you connect acts for you. Its maker's own terms and privacy policy cover what happens in that assistant. We're not responsible for what an assistant does with your notes, or for the changes it makes, though every change keeps the previous version so you can undo it.
  • You can disconnect any assistant at any time in Settings → Connect an AI.

Limits

To keep Amber Notes working for everyone, each account has limits, for example on note size, total storage, uploads and share links. The app tells you if you reach one.

A free service

Amber Notes is free. We may change, pause or end features, or the service as a whole. If we end the service, we'll tell you at least 30 days before and give you a way to take your notes with you.

No warranty

We work hard to keep Amber Notes reliable, but it's provided as it is and as available, without warranties that it will always work or never lose data. Keep copies of anything you can't afford to lose.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, and our total liability is limited to 500 SEK. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for gross negligence or intent, and nothing takes away your rights as a consumer under Swedish or EU law.

Ending your account

  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account. This deletes your notes and everything else in it.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to take your notes with you.

Open source

The Amber Notes source code is open source under the MIT License, at github.com/emilwagman/amber-notes. The license covers the code. These terms cover your use of the Amber Notes service we run.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes. If a change matters to you, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Amber Notes after that, the new terms apply.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Swedish law. Disputes go to the Swedish courts, but if you're a consumer you can also bring a claim where you live, and you keep the protection of your own country's consumer law. Consumers in Sweden can also bring a dispute to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN).
