Cornell notes
One section per lecture or chapter. Your notes go on the right, a question that each one answers on the left, and a summary of two or three sentences closes the section. To revise, cover the right column and answer the cues.
Lectures
Supply and demand, 1 October
| Cue | Notes |
|---|---|
| What shifts the demand curve? | Income, tastes, prices of related goods, expectations. A change in the good's own price only moves along the curve. |
| What is the equilibrium price? | The price where the quantity demanded equals the quantity supplied. |
| What does a price ceiling below equilibrium cause? | A shortage: at that price, people want more than sellers offer. |
Summary: Supply and demand meet at one price and quantity. Anything other than the price itself shifts a curve and moves that point; a price ceiling set too low leaves a shortage.
Cues to revisit
- What shifts the demand curve?
- What does a price ceiling below equilibrium cause?
The note after a few days of talking to your AI. Tinted lines are what it added, the way Amber Notes shows an AI's changes, with Undo and the earlier version kept in the note's history.
What the prompt does
Your AI creates a note called “Cornell notes” in your Study folder, or finds the one you already have, and learns how to keep it. One section per lecture or chapter. Your notes go on the right, a question that each one answers on the left, and a summary of two or three sentences closes the section. To revise, cover the right column and answer the cues.
Paste it once into a chat in ChatGPT or Claude with Amber Notes turned on, or into Claude Code.
Then just talk to it
- Here are my notes from today's economics lecture: …
- Quiz me on supply and demand.
- Which cues am I still missing?
Show the full prompt
First, look for a note called "Cornell notes" in my Amber Notes with search_notes. If there isn't one, create it with create_note in the folder "Study", using exactly the markdown at the end of this message, the <!-- pane-table --> line included (it gives the table's columns their types).
Then: Use my Amber Notes note "Cornell notes". When I paste or dictate notes from a lecture or a chapter, add a section at the end of "Lectures" with append_to_note: a "###" heading with the topic and the date, then a table with two columns, Cue and Notes. Put my notes on the right as short rows in my own words, and on the left a question each row answers. End the section with a line starting "**Summary:**", two or three plain sentences. When I say "quiz me", read the note with read_note and ask me the cues one at a time without showing the notes. Add any I miss under "Cues to revisit" as a checklist with append_to_note, and tick one with set_checklist_item when I get it right later.

The note you start with
This is what the prompt creates in Amber Notes: an ordinary note with the headings ready. Your AI fills it in from there, and you can still edit every line yourself.
