Habit tracker

A daily habit tracker your AI fills in. Tell ChatGPT or Claude what you did today and it logs the row in Amber Notes.

For anyone building a few small daily habits.

Free. Paste the prompt into ChatGPT or Claude with Amber Notes connected: it creates the note, then fills it in. For Claude Code, use its tab below. No Amber Notes yet? Download it for Mac.

Tell your AI

First, look for a note called "Habit tracker" in my Amber Notes with search_notes. If there isn't one, create it with create_note in the folder "Habits", using exactly the markdown at the end of this message, the <!-- pane-table --> line included (it gives the table's columns their types). Then: Use my Amber Notes note "Habit tracker". When I tell you what I did today, log one row with log_table_row: Yes or No for Walk, Read and No phone in bed, Water (glasses) as a number, and anything else in Note. If today already has a row, it gets updated, which is fine. When I ask for my week, read the table with read_table and add three short lines under "Weekly check-in" with append_to_note: what went well, what slipped, and one thing to try next week.

<!-- pane-table: Date=date; Walk=choice Yes|No; Read=choice Yes|No; No phone in bed=choice Yes|No; Water (glasses)=number; Note=text -->
| Date | Walk | Read | No phone in bed | Water (glasses) | Note |

Paste it into a chat in ChatGPT with Amber Notes turned on. That chat keeps it; paste it again when you start a new one.

Then just talk to it

  • Log today: walked, read 30 pages, 6 glasses of water, phone in bed again.
  • Which habit did I miss most this month?
  • How's my week looking?

What you'll get

The same note after a few days of talking to your AI. Tinted lines are what it added, the way Amber Notes shows an AI's changes, with Undo and the earlier version kept in the note's history.
